TOM joined the celebrations at Glasgow City Chambers
tonight as Castlemilk Time Bank was named as a recipient of the
prestigious Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.
Lord Provost Bob Winter paid tribute to the Timebank team, led
by co-ordinator, Gloria Murray. He presented the award in his role
as Lord Lieutenant, representing the Queen.
Tom, who joined local Labour councillors at the ceremony, said:
"I was present at the inaugural meeting six years ago when
Castlemilk Time was launched, ad it has gone from strength to
strength ever since.
"Volunteers have done a tremendous job in making the scheme a
success. Thanks to them, hundreds of people in Castlemilk are able
to swap and share their skills and expertise, making a genuine
contribution to improving people's quality of life.
"Castlemilk Timebank is a tremendous example of how a community
can work together for the greater good," he added.
